Today’s Tip- turn old lipstick into lip gloss

Posted by Alex (Jenn) on Feb 15, 2010 in Beauty, Women

lip

When your favorite lipstick runs out, you can make it last by turning it into lip gloss!

Scrape out the “corners” of the tube with a tooth pick. You need about a ¼ teaspoon or the amount of 3 small chocolate chips. If have more than that it is fine.

You will need :
1 1/2 tsp grated cocoa butter
1/2 tsp coconut oil
1/8 tsp vitamin E oil
1/4 tsp of lipstick

In a microwave heat the cocoa butter, coconut oil, and vitamin E oil in a microwave safe container at 15 second intervals until throuhly melted.
Stir in the color chips and keep stirring until melted and well blended.
Pour into small container and allow cooling before using.

Now you can have your favorite color a little longer. This is especially nice if the color has been discontinued.

Posted by Alex (Jenn) on Feb 14, 2010 in Beauty, Home, Strange and unusual, tips

nail-polish_300Clear polish; Not just for finger nails any more!

Paint clear polish on a screw before inserting and it supposedly will stay tighter longer.  Think eyeglasses screws, toilet seat screws, DIY furniture assembly screws.

Today’s tip – Vaseline for other than beauty

Posted by Alex (Jenn) on Feb 12, 2010 in Beauty, Home, Strange and unusual

vaselineVaseline Pure Petroleum Jelly for less than $5.00 has been used for decades as a beauty product, but did you it also camouflages light scratches in wood furniture? Another use is to grease up tight light bulb sockets by smoothing a bit onto the light bulb before you screw it in.

New York city food tours

Posted by Alex (Jenn) on Feb 10, 2010 in Food & Drink, Health, Home

newyorkI’ve always wanted to visit New York. They have so much culture all mixed into one small area.

If I go, I’ll do one of these New York City food tours for certain. Maybe I’d do one each day! For 34 bucks, you get dinner, lunch, snacks, and sweets from 6 different restaurants in one area of Manhattan. Too cool!

Karma, reincarnation, and the afterlife

Posted by Alex (Jenn) on Feb 9, 2010 in Health, Home, Strange and unusual

karma_policeI’m asked to write about my beliefs on life, the afterlife and all things spiritual in this post. It’s a touchy subject, huh?

I’ve always thought that it couldn’t just be “over” when we die here on earth, but it wasn’t until I had an encounter with some kind of spirit energy as a teenager that I really knew I was right. But, it isn’t as simple as all that. When my great grandmother passed away, I got nothing. She didn’t come to me in a dream, I never felt her near me or had any sense of her once she was gone. She had a strong belief in Heaven and hell, so I think now that she moved on to whatever she chose.

When my dad died though, I felt him all the time around me. He came to me in a dream that is vivid to me even now 5 years later. He did not believe in Heaven and hell, but in our spirit - our soul, living on and learning more and different lessons. I don’t know if this is a traditional definition on reincarnation , but I think our higher self does have a choice and that maybe we do start out learning lessons along the way, moving through our vehicles (our body) and when the current one breaks down and dies, getting a new one.

Then there is the whole issue of karma. Karma to me at this stage of my life is more a reflection of how I look outward at the world, than it was ten years ago. Ten years ago, karma was a reflection of the stupid things I’d done, or the bad choices I’d made. It was some crazy way the energy of the universe got back at me for being bad. I don’t think so anymore.

While this is a paid post, it got me thinking. I’d like to hear how you look at the whole thing, so please leave a comment and I’ll quit being so serious now.
